Monroe — A Monroe man is facing charges after being arrested twice in November for allegedly having sexual contact with the same 14-year-old girl.

Christopher Whitcomb, 35, of Monroe was arrested the first time on Nov. 15 when he allegedly engaged in sexual activity with the 14-year-old girl, Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office said.

At the time, Trafton said Whitcomb tried to tell police he didn’t know the age of the girl.

The second arrest occurred Nov. 26 after police received a report from the guardian of the girl that she ran away and was believed to be with Whitcomb, Trafton said. Police made contact with Whitcomb and located the girl who was with him at the time.

Whitcomb allegedly admitted to police that he engaged in sexual activity with the girl, despite knowing she was only 14 years old, Trafton said.

Police again charged Whitcomb with sexual abuse of a minor, as well as violation of bail conditions. He was booked at the Waldo County Jail before being transferred to Two Bridges Regional Jail, Trafton said.

Whitcomb’s name does not show up on the state sex offender registry because he has not been convicted for any offenses in the past, Trafton said.
