Hello Friends of the Library! We have an exciting event coming to our library. We have been selected to participate in the America Reads program sponsored by MainePublic. Our library’s reading group will receive free copies of the book "Americanah," by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. We will all read it and have a gathering in early August to discuss and comment, as well as reconnect with our fellow readers. The date and location is yet to be settled.

Since we are celebrating our town’s bicentennial this year, it will make it so special to connect or rekindle past library friendships.

This year also marks 20 years since we started a Monroe Reading group. Many changes have taken place. Some people have moved on or away. We also have added many new people to our list. I hope this one-time special event will bring us together to celebrate our love of reading and sharing ideas.

Please let Marge Sheridan know by May 18 if you want to receive a copy of the book. Marge can be reached at 525-4428 or via email at sheridanmarge9@gmail.com.

Basket Bingo will be held on Sunday, May 20, sponsored by Loyal Rebekah Lodge 92 and Monroe Lodge 136 IOOF at the Odd Fellows Hall on Jackson Road in Monroe. There will be bingo games, 50/50, door prizes and a quilt raffle. Doors open at 11 a.m., lunch available at 11:30 a.m., and games start at 1 p.m. Proceeds help send youth to Camp NEOFA in Montville this summer. Come and enjoy the fun!
