Longtime residents celebrate

Guy and Ella Work of Monroe celebrated their sons' birthdays in Port Charlotte Fla., Jan. 7 and 9. Calvin celebrated his 67th and Gary his 69th. Calvin drove his parents from their winter home at Interlachen, Fla., to Port Charlotte, Fla. Calvin said it sure is nice to still have your mom and dad around to enjoy a birthday with.

Benefit supper for burnt-out family

Mike Ellis and his extended family of Stockton Springs were the victims of a fire right after Christmas. They have lost all their belongings and they and their children are having a rough go of it. A benefit supper will be held at The Improved Order of Redmen Hall at 153 Main St. in Belfast. The supper will be Feb. 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. A donation of $6 for adults and $3 for kids under 12 will be appreciated.

On a personal note

It is now ice fishing season, but because of our warmer-than-usual start to winter, most bodies of water are not yet safe. So, please use caution when checking the ice to see if you can fish and be safe on the snowmobile trails. Keep a watch for snowshoe users as well as cross-country skiers. Be safe on your snowmobiles and make sure not to drink before heading out to enjoy the winter activities that are available to all us.
