This coming Monday, Jan. 13, there will be a “Good Neighbor Committee” (aka Site Plan Review Review Committee) meeting at the Town Office from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. There will then be a Budget Committee meeting in the same room from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and then the Board of Selectmen will meet.

The 11th annual Youth Ice Fishing Derby at Lake St. George State Park will be held Saturday, Jan. 25, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature an igloo, hobo cookout demonstrations, cross-country skiing, snowshoe, ice skating and sledding with park equipment. Fishing traps and bait available for kids and a warming hut with hot cocoa and lunch also provided. The event is free for kids under 12 (and for 65-plus) and $1.50 for 12 and older. The third annual Riley's Wish - Winter Games & Derby will take place Feb. 15 at Lake St. George State Park from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jackie Boulay said in a Facebook post, "Thank you all so much for helping us keep Riley's memory and legacy alive through the scholarship fund. Because of all of you we were able to give out $4,000 in scholarships to three students at the Waldo County Technical Center in 2019."

Liberty Library

The Penobscot Paddling Trail, Tuesday, Jan. 28, 6:30 p.m.

Cloe Chunn, developer of the Penobscot River Paddling Trail, will give an illustrated talk about falling in love with the Penobscot River, developing the river trail, and researching the meaning of indigenous names of some of the special places.

Soup Night, Saturday, Feb. 1, 5 p.m. Our annual Soup Night is coming up soon. Warm up with your neighbors with some free hot soup, bread, and desserts. If you would like to volunteer to make a soup or donate something for Soup Night, stop by the library or call 589-3161 to see what is needed.

Free Computer Classes, Tuesday, Jan. 21, 6:30-7:30 p.m. This is an informational session to discuss the courses offered by National Digital Equity Center. Classes include Quickbooks, Wordpress, Microsoft Office, internet safety and more.

The personal and professional accomplishments of previous Mount View graduates will encourage present-day students to reach for the stars! Nominations for the first Alumni Recognition are due at the Mount View High School office no later than Jan. 31. Anyone may make a nomination.
