Montville Town News

By Fran Gonzalez | Aug 06, 2017

Apologies for the late posting, but I was off this past week at a family reunion in the Western Hills of North Carolina! What a beautiful place, and such warm, friendly people. Now is the hard part with trying to get back in the swing of things.

This week on the Montville radar is the annual Field Day happening next Saturday, August 12th! Come check out the parade, music, food, games and vendor booths! The parade usually starts on Center Road and finishes at the Field Day site. If you would like to reserve a booth contact Terry Fischer at or call 323-9151. A 12’ x 12’ booth is available for $10. A great family-friendly community event where you will certainly run into someone you know.

Leslie Woods of Montville will exhibiting her new paintings of figures in sports at the Skidompha Library in Damariscotta during August. The library is located at 184 Main Street in Damariscotta. Leslie studied art at the Universities of New Hampshire and Maine. Her work has been accepted into the state-wide shows held by Maine Open Juried Art Show in Waterville and Boothbay Region Art Foundation in Boothbay Harbor.

The Kingdom Schoolhouse, a one room schoolhouse that was restored by community members and is operated by the Montville Historical Society, will be open on Monday evenings during August, from 6:30-8:00 PM. The Schoolhouse itself is a restored example of our history that would be a great place to bring summer visitors, and it is filled with donated items representing the people and history of Montville and the surrounding area. A member of the Society will be available to answer questions about the many interesting artifacts displayed.

There will be an Ice Cream Social happening at the Liberty Library on Saturday, August 26, at 6:30pm. Raffle drawings to follow.

That's about it for this week. If you have news you would like me to include, or just let me know you read the column, send me an email or give me a call. My deadline for next week's edition is Friday at 10:00.

Until next time.
