I have been thinking about this sign for a while now. I pass it everyday on my way home from work. What does it mean? Perhaps it is not suppose to be taken literally but metaphorically.  This smartly painted sign which greets you as you enter the town of Montville, seems to smile at you as you drive past. You are in Montville now. Welcome! If anybody knows any back story to this sign located on Rt. 220 just before the Fire Station, let me know?  I will pass it on. Thanks.

Congratulations goes out to Montville’s own Colby Robbins who successfully passed the EMT exam and will soon become a full-time Firefighter for the town!  Hats off to you and best of luck!

I had to look up what exactly was meant by the acronym “EMT.” Wikipedia defines it as clinicians, trained to respond quickly to emergency situations regarding medical issues, traumatic injuries and accident scenes. Whoa!!! Colby you rock!

Spagetti Supper Fundraiser
The Montville Fire Department will be having a Spagetti Supper on Thursday September 21st from 5 - 7pm at the Montville Firehouse (63 South Mountain Valley Hwy [rt.220]). This fundraiser will benefit the volunteer Fire Department. The supper includes Spaghetti and meatballs, salad, bread, dessert and drink. Dinner is by donation. To RSVP or if you have any questions call Karen York at 382-3077 or Margaret Masses at 382-3064. See you there!

Don’t forget the Kingdom Schoolhouse is open for the month of August on Monday evenings from 6:30-8:00pm. A member of the Society will be available to answer questions about the many interesting artifacts displayed.

The Liberty Library is having an Ice Cream Social on Saturday August 26 at 6:30 pm. The library would like to say “thank you” to all of their patrons who have supported them throughout the year. Greta and Victor Ahlefield will entertain with some fiddle tunes. This event will be held outside, weather permitting. Drawings for the Pick-A-Prize Raffle will take place inside afterwards. People will be able to purchase raffle tickets during the Ice Cream Social up until the start of the drawing. There will be a Door Prize which you must be present to win.

The newly opened Lake St. George Brewing Company will be having an official “Grand Opening” Celebration on Friday and Saturday, August 8/18 & 8/19.  Come celebrate the official grand opening with local food and music including delicious wood-fired pizza from Uproot Pie Company on Friday. On Saturday, Fahrenheit 225 will park their BBQ truck for the rest of the weekend to serve up some fantastic “low and slow” authentic BBQ.  Admission is free and they are located at the corner of 4 Marshall Shore Road, in Liberty.

A reminder that the Liberty Town Office will be closed August 19-26. During this time the Montville Town Office on Center Road will be available to process registrations. Please call ahead to confirm office is open (342-5544).

That's about it for this week. If you have news you would like me to include, or just let me know you read the column, send me an email or give me a call. My deadline for next week's edition is Friday at 10:00.

Until next time.
