I started whistling a happy little tune yesterday when driving home and getting to the bottom of the familiar hill on Burnham Hill. I braced myself, as I often do in mud season, before the pavement ends and the muddy chaos begins, a mere minute from my house. Sometimes it is the longest minute imaginable during this time. Suddenly I realized as I turned the corner and could see down the road, everything looked smooth, the road had been graded! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Montville assessing

It is assessing time again in Montville and you may see selectmen walking about, with clipboards in hand, assessing "things" around town. According to Administrative Assistant Jeanne Coleman, this is required by the state and a property owner cannot deny them access to their land. Say hello and invite them in for a snack.

The free stickers will be available starting May 2 from the Town Office. Office hours are Monday, noon to 7 p.m.; Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Thursday, noon to 7 p.m.; and the first and fourth Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cedar clearance sale

Dewey's Lumber and Cedar Mill at 140 Kager Mountain Road off Route 3 in Liberty is having a spring clearance sale. According to their Facebook post, "We have lots of camp grade/rustic cedar," which is great for camp decks or raised beds. They can be reached at 589-4126.

That's about it for this week.

Until next time.
