Volunteer Fire Department news

Recent call-outs have been a mutual aid call to Back Brooks Road in Monroe for a structure fire. The following week Engine 34 and Utility 30 with a crew of seven assisted Belfast in controlling a grass/woods fire.

On March 25, the Ladies Auxiliary met, electing the officers for this year. Elected were President Tina Trip, Secretary Irene Blood, Treasurer Joan Mills and Vice President Mindy Rowlands.

Irene Blood stepped down as the president after serving for many years, Becky Darres retired from her many years of service and Candy Scribner decided to take a breather from the position of vice president. Thank you to those three for all they have done to make our town a little better. We would be remiss in not thanking our ladies for all they do quietly behind the scenes improving our Fire Department.

The Ladies Auxiliary is a small group of ladies who meet about four times yearly for regular business. They also assist with fundraising projects during the year as well as annually hosting a children's night with Santa. One does not have to be a spouse of a firefighter to be a member. To learn more about or to join the Ladies Auxiliary, you can contact Tina Trip, Irene Blood or any other member.

It's now grass fire season; please be careful, get a permit, follow the safety rules and be ever alert to changes in the wind. Permits may be obtained in town from Pat Scribner or Brian Simmons. They may also be obtained online through the Maine Forest Service; however, there is a fee for that.

Be happy, be safe and share a smile.

Birthdays

Happy birthday to Hope Reynolds on April 8, and to Richard Cook on April 13.

Sympathy

Our deepest sympathy goes out to the Charlie Aldus family. Charlie was such a wonderful, caring person and he will be missed by all.

Our deepest sympathy also goes out to Sylvia Morse Cushman's family in her passing.

You all have a fabulous week and enjoy all this nice weather. Be kind to one another and say hello to people. I love running into people and saying hi, also giving them a smile.

Swan Lake Grocery in open now after the fire. What an awesome store, and all the kind people that are back or new. I just love that store and am so glad it's back open after the fire. If you haven't been there, go check it out. Rob and Debbie have such a wonderful crew and they all will greet you and help you out.

Quote of the week

Just imagine how different the world could be if we all spoke to everyone with respect and kindness. — Holly Branson
