Belfast — Top-ranked Mount View, which sported an unbeaten record when it headed into the Waldo County Little League baseball championship game on Monday night, June 17 against No. 3 Searsport/Stockton, had been the cream of the crop all season.

Monday’s title clash at Walsh Field further cemented that fact as Mount View collected nine hits and held the opposition to a single hit — with that, well, being a single — and galloped to an 8-0 shutout victory to claim the coveted championship.

Team members for the newly-crowned champs, coached by Lenny Knowlton, include Garrett Fowler, Tasker Holmes, Stuart Knowlton, Judson Thomas, Dakota Harriman, Daveon Raven, Evan Fountain, Brady Bryant, Emily Richards, Dominic Nash, Kaden Bradeen and Corey Stewart.

Team members for Searsport/Stockton, coached by Nick Dakin, include Sam Jewett, Charlie Lewis, Gavin Kronholm, Ashton Ellis, Ravon Carbisiera, Brayden Dakin, Jeremiah Cole, Issac Traves, Camden Springer, Ben Milliken, Evan Cottrell and Ian Lucas.

Mount View, which finished 14-0, plated three runs in the third inning, added two more in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Leading Mount View at the plate were Stuart Knowlton (double, single, 2 runs), Thomas (single, run, 2 RBIs), Harriman (single, RBI, run), Raven (double, run, RBI), Fountain (single, run), Bryant (home run, single) and Bradeen (single, run).

For Searsport/Stockton, which ended 5-9, Lewis had the lone hit of the game, a third-inning single.

Stuart Knowlton and Harriman pitched for Mount View and combined on a one-hit shutout as the duo yielded five walks, while striking out a whopping 16 batters. Knowlton struck out the side in the first, second and third innings, as did Harriman in the sixth. Ellis went the distance for Searsport/Stockton, allowing nine hits and one walk, with eight strikeouts.

After two scoreless innings, Mount View broke into the scoring column in the third, which began when Bradeen singled ahead of Stuart Knowlton, who belted a double to put two runners in scoring position. That set the table for Thomas, who belted a two-run double to put the higher seed on the board.

Harriman then made the score 3-0 with an RBI-single to right.

Mount View continued its offensive onslaught in the fourth when Fountain singled to lead the inning ahead of Bryant, who connected on a two-run, inside-the-park home run to give it a five-run advantage.

In the fifth, Mount View put the game out of reach.

Stuart Knowlton began the frame with a single, stole second base, moved to third on an error and later scored on a passed ball, while Harriman reached base moments later via a base on balls.

Raven then doubled off the second base bag — as the ball trickled deep into the outfield — which allowed Harriman to come all the way around to score. Bryant later plated Raven with a single to round out the scoring.

The final regular-season standings included: Mount View 12-0, Tri-Town 9-3, Searsport/Stockton 4-8, Brooks 4-8 and Belfast 1-11.

The previous playoff results included: No. 4 Brooks beating No. 5 Belfast 16-6, No. 1 Mount View beat No. 4 Brooks 7-2 and No. 3 Searsport/Stockton beat No. 2 Tri-Town 7-5.
