Mount View, Searsport boys net sweet court victories

Viking girls fall short in competitive game with Shead

It was a nice day on the hardwood for Waldo County boys basketball teams on Saturday, Jan. 5 as Mount View and Searsport cemented midseason wins.

The Mustang boys picked up their first win of the campaign — a 58-49 decision — over visiting Old Town, while the Viking boys went on the road to post a 76-38 win over Shead of Eastport.

Also, the Viking girls also dropped a 47-43 decision on the road to the Tigers.

The following is a recap of reported results:

Boys

Mount View 58, Old Town 49

At Thorndike Jan. 5, the Mustangs galloped to their first win of the season against the Coyotes. Mount View led 14-10 after the first quarter, while Old Town led 28-22 at halftime and 36-31 after three quarters.

Sean Raven scored 17 points for the ‘Stangs, while Draedyn Furrow added 11; Brennan Grant, nine; Kyle Noble and Declan Knowlton, seven; Neal Kenney, five; and Jackson Martin, two.

Dominic Mitchell keyed the Coyotes with 18 points, while Colby Archer added 15; Michael Brown, six; Jacob Cyr, five; Sam Magoon and Matt Seymour, two; and Shawn Hoogterp, one.

Mount View was 15-of-31 (48 percent) from the foul line, while Old Town was 5-of-12 (42 percent).

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class B North, Mount View (1-6, 1.1728 points) is 15th, while Hermon (8-0, 42.9630 points) is first in the 16-team region. The top 11 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Searsport 76, Shead 38

At Eastport Jan. 5, the Vikings went on the road and doubled up the host Tigers. Searsport led 15-6, 43-15 and 60-26 at the quarter breaks.

Colby Snow paced Searsport with 23 points, while Josh Wright added 13; Chase Brassbridge, 10; George Dakin, nine; Charlie Spinney and Isaiah Runci, six; Aaron Wiley, five; and Gabe Kneeland and Dustin Hall, two.

Gavin Bowen scored 19 points for Shead, while Trevor Fenderson added 10; Austin Ashby, eight; and Devin Wilder, one.

The Vikings were 27-of-41 (66 percent) from the foul line, while the Tigers were 6-of-14 (43 percent).

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class C North, Searsport (4-4, 9.0355 points) is 10th, while Houlton (7-1, 26.7901 points) is first in the 20-team region. The top 14 teams qualify for the playoffs.
