Mount View victorious, Searsport ties, Belfast falls short

Mustang boys stay at top of Class B North, other county teams in playoff mix

Win, lose or draw, it was an up, down and sideways kind of day for Waldo County high school soccer squads on Tuesday, Sept. 26 as Mount View, Belfast and Searsport were in action on the pitch.

The Mustangs posted wins over Nokomis of Newport, while the Lions were downed by Winslow. The Viking boys also battled to a stalemate with host Dexter.

The following is a recap of reported results:

Boys soccer

Mount View 6, Nokomis 0

At Newport Sept. 26, the Mustangs galloped past the winless Warriors. Mount View led 1-0 at halftime.

Leading Mount View were Elijah Allen (2 goals, assist), Darrett Fowler (goal), Logan Curtis (goal), Cassidy Pound (goal), Andrew Savoy (goal, 2 assists) and Matt Overlock (2 assists).

Max Tomlin and Ricky Nelson made a combined 12 saves in goal for the ‘Stangs, while Cade Kreider finished with 13 saves for the Warriors.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class B North, Mount View (8-1, 47.9082 points) is first in the 21-team region. The top 14 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Searsport 1, Dexter 1 (2OT)

At Dexter Sept. 26, The Vikings and Tigers battled to a stalemate. The opponents were scoreless at halftime.

Shawn Dakin scored after heading in an Aaron Wiley corner kick with two minutes to play in regulation for Searsport, while Christopher Roderka also creased the net for Dexter.

Ben Powell made 11 saves on 22 shots in goal for the Vikings, while Brett Kusnierz made four saves on eight shots for the Tigers.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class D South, Searsport (2-4-2, 11.1851 points) is seventh, while Greenville (6-0-1, 48.5969 points) is first in the 17-team region. The top 12 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Girls soccer

Mount View 5, Nokomis 1

At Thorndike Sept. 26, the Mustangs bested the visiting Warriors. Mount View led 1-0 at halftime.

Keying the Mustangs on offense were Betsy Hunt (3 goals), Katelin Bennett (2 goals), Ariana Allen (assist) and Monica Wren (assist). Meagan Whitten scored for the Warriors.

Shala Davis made six saves on eight shots in net for Mount View, while Makenzy Elderkin made 15 saves on 23 shots for Nokomis.

"Two days in a row with mid-80s temps was really tough physically on the girls,” said Mount View coach David Page. “But we came out in the second half and took the game over. It was awesome to see the girls rebound and respond the way they did after a tough loss yesterday against Brewer."

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class B North, Mount View (5-3, 20.3571 points) is ninth, while Waterville (7-1-1, 48.6990 points) is first in the 21-team region. The top 14 teams qualify for the playoffs.
