Mustang boys gallop to 4-0, Lion girls roar to first win in two seasons

Viking teams fall short against GSA

High school soccer teams from Belfast, Mount View and Searsport were in action on the pitch from Thursday to Monday, Sept. 7-11, which resulted in a mixed bag of results.

On Sept. 11, the Searsport boys were dealt a 4-0 loss to Bucksport.

In Sept. 9 play, the Lion girls posted a 3-0 win Washington Academy of East Machias, while the Lions boys were downed 10-0 by the Raiders.

On Sept. 8, the Mount View boys remained unbeaten on the young season with a 1-0 win over Ellsworth, while George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill bested Searsport 2-0.

On Sept. 7, the George Stevens Academy girls netted a 3-1 win over Searsport.

The following is a recap of recently-reported results:

Girls soccer

Belfast 3, Washington Academy 0

At Belfast Sept. 9, the Lions blanked the visiting Raiders. Belfast held a 1-0 edge at halftime.

Junne Robertson-McIntire creased the net twice in the win for Belfast, while Anna Metcalf added a goal for the hosts. Robertson-McIntire, Lindsey Cross and Grace Fitzjurls assisted on scores for the Lions.

Belfast held a 25-5 edge in shots and 3-1 advantage in corner kicks. Shera Hilt made five saves in goal for the Lions and Naomi Curtis 17 saves for the Raiders.

The win was the first for the Lion girls since Oct. 15, 2015 — a 2-0 home victory over Medomak Valley.

“When the final whistle blew, my girls celebrated their first win in quite a while,” said Belfast coach Chris Lavalle. “The celebration and the win itself were done together, something that we have been stressing lately in training.”

George Stevens Academy 3, Searsport 1

At Blue Hill Sept. 7, the Eagles soared past the Vikings by two goals. George Stevens Academy led 2-0 at halftime.

Lindsay Nevin scored a pair of first-half goals to lead GSA, while Nellie Haldane added a goal in the second half for the hosts.

Ashten Wells creased the net for the Vikings.

Abby Stemp made 14 saves in net for Searsport, while Bess McArthur made five saves in goal for GSA.

Boys soccer

Bucksport 4, Searsport 0

At Searsport Sept. 11, the Golden Bucks blanked the winless Vikings.

Tanner Stenger creased the net three times — twice in the first half and once in the second — to pace Bucksport.

Ben Powell made eight saves on 13 shots in net for the Vikings, while Christian Chase-Hurd made four saves on 14 shots for the Golden Bucks.

Mount View 1, Ellsworth 0

At Ellsworth Sept. 9, the Mustangs booted past the Eagles to remain unbeaten on the young season. The sides were scoreless at halftime.

Elijah Allen scored for Mount View, on an assist from Matt Overlock, with 23:48 remaining in the second half for the lone goal.

Max Tomlin minded the net for Mount View and Hunter Fernald for Ellsworth.

George Stevens Academy 2, Searsport 0

At Searsport Sept. 8, the Eagles blanked the host Vikings. GSA led 1-0 at halftime.

For GSA, Ben Cole creased the net and also benefited from a Searsport own-goal in the victory.

Ben Powell made 17 saves on 27 shots in net for the Vikings, while Parker Allen made three saves on four shots in goal for the Eagles.
