Mustangs again have Lions' numbers in pitch sweep of county rivals

Ravin, Pound record hat tricks for Mount View girls

For the second time in a week, the Belfast and Mount View soccer teams converged on the pitch.

And, for the second time this season, Monday, Oct. 5 ended with a pair of Mustang wins as the girls galloped to a 7-2 win in Thorndike and boys 4-1 win in Belfast.

The schools will play more frequently than usual due to most schools using regional schedules in light of COVID-19. The Waldo County athletic rivals usually play twice a season.

The schools are set to play soccer matches one final time on Monday, Oct. 19.

The following is a breakdown of the Oct. 5 games:

Girls

Mount View 7, Belfast 2

At Thorndike Oct. 5, the Mustangs blanked the Lions in the first half and galloped to a five-goal win. Mount View held a 2-0 halftime edge.

Leading the potent Mount View scoring attack were Gabby Ravin (3 goals, assist), Sage Pound (3 goals), Mia Rae (goal), Lydia Bryant (assist), Gabby Allen (assist) and Hannah Coolen (assist).

For Belfast, Natalie Hamlin netted both goals.

Gabby Hanks and Maddy Bisson combined to make three saves on six shots in goal for the Mustangs, while Stella Collins made 10 saves on 21 shots in net for the Lions.

Boys

Mount View 4, Belfast 1

At Belfast Oct. 5, the Mustangs remained unbeaten on the young season with a three-goal win over the Lions. Mount View led 2-0 at halftime.

Tyler Russell (goal, 2 assists), Noah Hurd (2 goals) and Draedyn Furrow (goal) led the Mustang offensive attack, while the Lions’ lone score came in the second half by Lincoln Graf.

Ricky Nelson made 12 saves on 13 shots in net for Mount View, while Tanner Veilleux made five saves on 11 shots in goal for Belfast.
