Mustangs split with Bulldogs, as baseball rallies for win

Fairfield — A nail-biting finish and no-hitter highlighted a split on the high school diamonds for Mount View on Tuesday, April 20 as the Mustangs traveled to Fairfield to face Lawrence.

Mustang baseball rallied from an early deficit and edged the Bulldogs 8-7, while Mount View softball could not muster a hit and fell 11-0 to the hosts.

The following is a recap of the games:

Baseball

Mount View 8, Lawrence 7

At Fairfield April 20, the Mustangs dug themselves out of a first-inning hole and galloped past the host Bulldogs. Mount View scored one run in the first inning, four in the third, two in the fifth and one in the sixth, while Lawrence scored four in the first, one in the second and two in the sixth.

Noah Hurd worked five innings on the hill for the ‘Stangs, as he allowed nine hits and two walks, with 11 strikeouts. Kyle Ingraham and Declan Knowlton spun the final two frames, as the duo allowed a combined four hits and no walks, with three strikeouts.

Hayden Lee and Corbin Kissinger pitched for Lawrence, as they allowed eight hits and five walks, with nine strikeouts.

Leading Mount View at the plate were Draedyn Furrow (2 singles, 3 runs, stolen base), Hurd (double, single, run, steal), Knowlton (run, 2 steals), Ingraham (single, run), Dakota Harriman (single), Ben Osbourne (run), Cameron Rae (run), Cole Ripley (single) and Isaac Widmer (single).

For the Bulldogs, Dylan Coombs (2 singles, 2 runs, 2 stolen bases), Ryan Bourque (run, steal), Mason Lunt (single, run), Logan Carpenter (single), Nate Grard (2 singles, run), Lee (single, run), Kissinger (single), Jon Roy (single, steal) and Parker Higgins (steal, run) paced the offense.

Softball

Lawrence 11, Mount View 0

At Fairfield April 20, the Bulldogs took a bite out of the visiting Mustangs. Lawrence scored three runs in the first frame, one in the third, three in the fourth and fifth and one more in the sixth.

Sage Reed spun a no-hitter in the pitching circle for Lawrence as she walked two and hit one batter, while she struck out 16, including the final seven of the contest. Emma Fonger pitched for Mount View, as she allowed 11 hits and two walks, with two strikeouts.

Leading the Bulldogs at the dish were Kaylie Elkins (double, 2 singles, 2 stolen bases, 4 runs), Jazmin Johnson (2 singles), Maylie Knox (double, run), Sarah Poil (double, single, run), Reed (triple, double, 2 runs), Lila Pierce (single, run), Jade Sullivan (single, run), Paige Reynolds (single) and Gabbie Nickerson (run).
