NAGA Girls' Gymnastics Team Win at Spring Fling; Heading to State Championships

The level 2-5 girl's gymnastics team from North Atlantic Gymnastics Academy recently competed at the 2015 Spring Fling hosted by GymNation in Kennebunk, Maine. The girls took home many individual awards in addition to two team awards.

The level 2 girls placed 3rd as a team with a combined score of 104.1. The girls were mere points behind Andy Valley of Lewiston (second) and Iron Rail Gymnastics from Massachusetts(first). Individual highlights included a first place finish for Abigail Hise of Lincolnville on both the Uneven Bars (8.7) and Balance Beam (9.25) in the 9 year old division. Abigail also placed second on the vault (8.7) and finished second all-around with a combined score of 35.1. Also in the 9 year old division, Josie Fitzjurls of Hopeplaced second on the Uneven Bars with a score of 8.65 and tied for 3rd on the Balance Beam (9.1), Floor Exercise (8.45) and All-Around (34.6).

In the 8 year old division, Leah Snyder of Hope won the Uneven Bars with a score of 8.75. Leah also placed 3rd on the Vault (8.65) and Floor Exercise (8.5). Leah finished 2nd in the All-Around with a score of 34.2. Abbie Anderson of Port Clyde had a 4th place finish on the Uneven Bars with an 8.5 and a 7th place finish in the All-Around (32.25). In the 6 year old division, Madilyn Anderson of Port Clyde tied for 3rd place on the Balance Beam (8.4) and Uneven Bars (7.6). Madilyn also placed 6th All-Around with a 31.2.

The level 3 girls team placed first in the team competition with a combined score of 107.85 finishing just 0.1 points ahead of Leaps and Bounds from Fairfield, Maine. In the 8 year old division, Britta Denny of Rockport placed 1st in the All-Around with a score of 36.15. Britta also placed 1st on the Vault (9.2) and Floor Exercise (9.15). Britta finished 2nd on Balance Beam with a 9.2 and third on Uneven Bars (8.8). Camden Contakos of Rockport finished 2nd in the All-Around with a 35.7. Camden placed 2nd on the Vault (9.15), Uneven Bars (8.85), and Floor Exercise (9.0). Camden was fourth on the Balance Beam with an 8.7. Amelia Quesnel of Hope placed third on the vault with a personal best of 9.1. Amelia also placed5th on the Uneven Bars (8.15) and fourth in the All-Around (32.25).

In the 10-11 year old division, Julia Peasley of Lincolnville finished 2nd All-Around (35.9). Julia won the Balance Beam with a score of 9.05 and placed 2nd on both the Uneven Bars (9.0) and the Floor Exercise (8.85). Julia also placed third on the Vault (9.0). Also in the 10-11 year old division Malaya Moores of Camden finished 3rd on the Floor Exercise (8.5). Malaya also placed 4th on both the vault (8.85) and Uneven Bars (8.7). In the All-Around, Malaya finished 5th with a score of 34.45.

NAGA had 2 girls compete in the level 4 competition: McKenna LaBrozzi and Elise Condon, both of Owls Head. McKenna won the Uneven Bars with a score of 8.9. She also placed 4th on both the Balance Beam (8.85) and Floor Exercise (8.3). In the All-Around, McKenna finished 2nd with a score of 34.1. Elise placed 5th on Vault (8.4) and 4th in the All-Around with a score of 32.6.

Haley Black of Rockland and Eleanor Greer of Rockport represented NAGA in the level 5 competition. Haley won the All-Around with a score of 33.55. She also placed 1st on the Vault (8.6), Balance Beam (8.6), and Floor Exercise (8.2). Haley was 2nd on the Uneven Bars (8.15). Eleanor finished 3rd All-Around (30.25) and 3rd on the Vault (8.4), Uneven Bars (8.0), Balance Beam (6.6), and Floor Exercise (7.25).

All of the girls on the NAGA competitive team competed this past weekend in Westbrook at the Maine State Sectional meet as part of the qualification process for the Maine State Championships. Girls from level 2-7 will be traveling to Waterville on April 10-12 to represent NAGA at the State Championships hosted by Decal Gymnastics. Good luck girls!
