NAGA Gymnasts Finish the Season with All-Around Champions

The North Atlantic Gymnastics Academy women's team participated in the 2016 USA Gymnastics Maine State Championships held April 2-3 at the Alfond Youth Center in Waterville, Maine. Members of the Excel and Levels 2-8 teams participated in the meet.

Saturday's meet consisted of the Excel women's competition and levels 2-5. Highlights from the Excel competition included a first place finish on vault (9.075) and beam (9.3) and 2nd place finish on uneven bars (9.05) by Vinalhaven's Aubrianna Hoose. Aubrianna finished 2nd All-around with a 36.025. Kate Kemper of Rockport posted a 2nd place finish on vault with a score of 9.0 and a fourth place finish in the all-around with a 35.875. Erin Stevenson of Owls Head placed first on uneven bars (9.3) and second on balance beam (9.225). Meagan Davis, also of Vinalhaven, finished sixth on both vault (8.75) and floor exercise (8.875). Aubrianna, Kate, Erin, and Meagan were able to grab the Team State Championship Title as well!

Highlights from the Level 2 competition included a strong performance by Isabella Barnes-Demers of Thomaston in the 9+ age division. Isabella won the state championship title on the vault (9.125), uneven bars (9.0), and all-around (35.95). Also in the 9+ age division, Scarlett Flint of Warren had a second place finish on the vault (8.9( and sixth place finish all-around (34.4). In the 8 year old division Miamar Matos of Rockport placed third on the vault (8.675) and floor exercise (8.725) as well as a third place finish in the all-around competition (33.225). Also in the 8 year old division was a 3rd place finish on floor exercise by Jaeden Seavey of Camden (8.725), a third place finish on uneven bars by Kendyl Heyer of Rockport, and a first place state title on vault by Scarlett Martin (8.8) of Camden. Scarlett also placed third on the balance beam with a score of 9.025. Addison Poland of Cushing competed in the 7 year old division. She placed fifth on the vault (8.7) and eighth all-around (31.8). In the 6 year old and under division Amelia Potter of Rockport placed 2nd on the vault (8.675) and fifth all-around (31.875). Molly O'Dwyer of Rockport placed fourth on the uneven bars (7.45) and sixth all-around (31.525) and Charlotte Gaudreau of Rockland placed fifth on the balance beam and 8th all-around (30.375). The Level 2 team captured a 3rd place finish in the team competition.

In the Level 3 competition, Abigail Hise of Lincolnville finished first on the vault (9.225), second on floor exercise (8.9), and third on the balance beam(8.925). Abigail also won the all-around title with a score of 35.875. Abbie Anderson of Port Clyde placed 2nd on both the vault (9.1) and uneven bars (9.05). Abbie finished 5th overall  (35.175). In the 8 year old division, Leah Snyder of Hope placed 3rd on both the vault (8.875) and balance beam (8.525). She placed 4th all-around (34.25). Miranda Yarosis of Rockport also competed in the 8 year old division with a 6th place finish on both vault (8.65) and balance beam (7.775). In the 6-7 year old division, Madilyn Anderson also of Port Clyde placed sixth on balance beam (8.225) and seventh on uneven bars (8.225). Abby Harrington of Nobleboro placed 8th on the vault with an 8.625  and twelfth all-around (31.25). The Level 3 girls placed 4th overall as a team.

Camden Contakos of Rockport, Malaya Moores of Camden, and Madalyn Mercer of Nobleboro competed in the Level 4 competition. In the 9 year old division, Camden placed fifth on balance beam (8.75) and 8th all-around (33.15). In the 11 year old division, Malaya placed 3rd on uneven bars (9.125) and seventh all-around (33.825). Madalyn placed 8th on uneven bars (8.35) and 10th all-around (32.675).

Elise Condon of Lincolnville and Julia Peasley of Lincolnville represented NAGA in the Level 5 competition. Elise placed fifth on balance beam (8.75) and eighth all-around (34.0). Julia placed eighth on uneven bars (8.3) and ninth all-around (33.275).

On Sunday, girls on the Level 6, 7, and 8 teams competed. In the Level 6 competition Eleanor Greer of Rockport won the state title on uneven bars (9.2), balance beam (9.175), and the all-around competition (34.5). In the 12 and under division, Haley Black of Rockland also won the all-around competition (35.75) and placed 2nd on both the vault (8.65) and floor exercise (9.175). In the Level 7 competition, Lauren Schenk of Rockport placed second on the floor exercise (9.225) and fourth all-around (34.625). Audrey Scott of Hope placed fifth on uneven bars (8.325) and ninth all-around (33.925). Marta Denny of Rockport won the state title on the uneven bars (8.35) and placed second on the vault (8.2) and floor exercise (8.725). Marta also placed second in the all-around with a score of 32.925.
