Napoleon 'Nap' Blais

Jul 03, 2017

Napoleon “Nap” Joseph Blais, 70, of Waldo, passed away peacefully at his home June 26, 2017. Nap was born July 4, 1946, in Augusta,, the son of the late Napoleon and Bernice (Gammon) Blais.

Nap attended Cony High School in Augusta and began working at McFarland Nissan where he developed an affection for the Volkswagen Beetle. For most of his working career, Nap was a highly educated appraiser of vehicles and heavy equipment. He also was a deputy sheriff for Kennebec County Sheriff’s Department, where he met and married his wife Sue. He also made many friends that led to as many adventures making good fodder for storytelling.

Leaving the Augusta area, Nap and Sue relocated to the small town of Waldo where he made more friends than he could count. He became the self-proclaimed “Man About Town.” One of Nap's greatest joys was the annual camping trip with “the boys.” Many were the jokes told around the campfire and fish caught at First Roach Lake.

Nap is survived by his wife Sue Blais of Waldo; two beautiful and most beloved daughters, Sherry Briggs and her husband Tom of Winthrop and Susie Glazier and her husband Steve of West Gardiner; three grandchildren, Stephanie Palleschi, Matthew Glazier and Michael Glazier; one great-grandchild, Brayden Glazier; two sisters, Debby Poulin and her husband Gerry of Augusta and Janet Blouin of Augusta; two best friends, Ken Ballard of Manchester and Ken McAfee of Littleton; Al Winslow of Waldo was the only man that could tolerate his gruff; and his constant companion Lucy, his black Lab.

He was predeceased by his older brother, William Roy; younger brother, Jeffrey Blais; and older sister, Darlene Roy Libby.

Those who wish to remember Nappy in a special way should take some time and go fishing.

Friends may come to his home for a celebration of life Sunday, July 9, from 2 to 6 p.m., 617 Waldo Station Road, Waldo. Arrangements are under the care of Young Funeral Home, 31 W. Main Street, Searsport, online at mitchelltweedie-young.com.
