Belfast — Paul Naron, owner of 7 and 15 Front St., is installing new docks at his marina in front of the properties, on which he has a contract rezoning agreement with the city. He said he has been getting a lot of interest from boaters who want to rent slips.

The inquiries come from mariners who have contacted the harbor master about what docks are available in the harbor, as well as overflow from other marinas in the area, he said. He is renting spaces now and said there is a “serious demand.”

He is building the docks in two phases, which will result in a 650-foot dock when completed, he said. One dock extends 233 feet into the water, then runs at an angle along the harbor for another 200 feet, and the other extends out 217 feet, leaving 75 feet between the ends of the two docks.

It will add up to 90 slips to the area that people can rent seasonally or for a fixed amount of time, he said. The downeast float design will stabilize other docks in the area, he said. It acts as a wave attenuator, which will bring more stability to the dock during high winds and waves and can be left in the water year-round.

He said he is looking for people with boats 20 feet to 50 feet long to rent the slips to. He hopes to have 15 to 20 slips available this season, but it depends on how much of the construction is completed.

The marina offers updated bathroom facilities, and water and electricity hookups are available, he said. Hamlin’s Marine recently opened in the old French & Webb building offering boating supplies. He thinks its proximity will be an attraction for boaters.

Those interested in renting a slip should call him at 218-7005. He expects the docks to fill up fast, he said.
