National Military Appreciation Month

May 06, 2019

Celebrated every May, National Military Appreciation Month is a declaration that encourages U.S. citizens to observe the month in a symbol of unity. We honor the current and former members of the U.S. Armed Forces, including those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the pursuit of freedom. Thank you to all who are currently serving and those who have served for your service to our country.

Women Veterans Open House

Hosted by the Department of Veterans' Affairs, this open house Thursday, May 16, honors women veterans at VA Maine HCS, Togus Campus. Stop by the Women's Primary Care Clinic from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in Building 205, first floor, and learn about health care services for women veterans, meet staff, and help celebrate the clinic's five-year anniversary.

Disabled American Veterans is looking for volunteer drivers for its Volunteer Transportation Network Program. Help veterans across Maine get to their appointments at Togus VA Medical Center.

You must possess a valid driver's license and current vehicle insurance, and pass a physical exam and a driving record/background check.

ShopVCS.com

VA’s Veterans Canteen Service is offering a new benefit for veterans and VA employees. Last November, VCS launched ShopVCS.com, an online shopping site available exclusively to veterans enrolled in VA, their families, and VA employees. Registration is free; just go to ShopVCS.com.

ShopVCS.com features products ranging from sportswear, jewelry, home décor, appliances and electronics, to military items, health and beauty, made-in-USA brands, veteran-owned brands, and more.

ShopVCS.com offers items not found in Patriot Stores, the retail shops located in the VA hospitals and clinics. Ticketing and travel services are also available, including deals for hotels, theme parks, movie tickets, concert tickets and more.

Proceeds from your purchases go back to the veteran community in support of such VA programs as National Rehabilitation Adaptive Sports Games, Vets Crisis Suicide Prevention, Fisher House, Women Veteran Programs, National Disaster Relief and Homeless Veterans programs.
