National Vietnam Era Veterans Day

Feb 27, 2019

The Travis Mills Foundation is proud to honor Maine’s Vietnam Era Veterans by hosting a free breakfast for veterans on Friday, March 29, National Vietnam Era Veterans Day, at the Augusta Armory, 179 Western Ave., at 9 a.m.

U.S. Army S/Sgt. Travis Mills will be present and will deliver remarks to salute and welcome home Vietnam Era veterans. Mills is an ardent supporter of our Vietnam veterans, and this event is his initiative to say thank you to those who have served and sacrificed for our freedoms during the Vietnam War.

Attending Vietnam Era veterans and their immediate family members (spouse, caregiver, child, guest) are free of charge. We ask that family members be limited to ensure that more veterans can be served.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice for our nation. Questions about the event may be directed to foundation@travismillsfoundation.org or 480-3490, ext. 0.

Need a copy of your DD-214?

Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services can help veterans get copies of their military discharges (DD-214 form or equivalent), which are often required as proof of service when applying for benefits offered through state and federal agencies as well as local municipalities.

If you are a veteran whose home of record at time of entry into the service was in the state of Maine, then the Bureau of Veterans' Services may have a copy of your DD214 (or equivalent) on file. You can also go to the Veteran Identification tab on our website at https://www.maine.gov/…/b…/veteran-identification/index.html.

If you entered from another state, then you should visit the website of the National Association of State Directors of Veterans Affairs for a listing of state directors at http://www.nasdva.us/.

The National Archives and Records Administration may also be able to assist in providing you with a copy from the National Personnel Records Center. Visit their website at https://www.archives.gov/, and follow the instructions for completing a request.

Service & Sacrifice Series Challenge

The Service & Sacrifice Series Challenge serves as a collaborative effort to raise awareness through events that continue the legacies of our nation's Gold Star families, military active duty, veterans, and first responder heroes.

The first of its kind in Maine, the Service & Sacrifice Series Challenge represents 10 “service and sacrifice” events throughout New England over seven months. The goal is to connect civilians with those who have served, and introduce events, stories, and legacies they may never have known. The Service and Sacrifice Series motto is “Remember, honor, and inspire.”

Our mission is simple: Inspired by heroes and connecting communities.

Being a part of the Service & Sacrifice Series Challenge is simple and can be done anywhere worldwide. Simply register for one event per month, participate in person or virtually, and earn cool Challenge swag at the end!
