New group aims to impeach Trump through political diversity

Jun 29, 2018

Belfast — Elliot Benjamin has announced the formation of a group to impeach President Trump through political diversity. The first meeting is scheduled for July 9, 6 to 7:45 p.m., at Belfast Free Library, third-floor conference room.

In a news release, Benjamin said this will be "a discussion/support group for people of all political persuasions who believe that it is in the best interest of our country to work toward impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump."

He invites interested individuals to learn about and discuss possible grounds of impeachment, to engage in productive conversations with Jared Golden if he wins the 2018 congressional election in Maine for the House of Representatives, to "regain a feeling of pride and integrity in the democracy of the U.S." through working toward the impeachment of a president who has, according to Benjamin:

- obstructed justice and violated the U.S. Constitution;

- advocated violence and undermined the freedom of the press;

- abused the pardon power and concealed crimes against the U.S.;

- endangered the peace and security of our country; and

- instituted the U.S. government policy of cruel and unconstitutional imprisonment of children and their families.
