New Minister of Music Carolyn Maunz, left, with Pastor Deb Arnold at the First Congregational Church of Searsport.

Searsport — The First Congregational Church of Searsport has hired Carolyn Maunz as minister of music.

A native of Maine, Maunz moved back to the Midcoast in 2016. In her new role, she will work with both children's and adult choirs, and instrumentalists of all ages.

The adult choir rehearses Thursdays at 7 p.m. at the church and is open to all who enjoy music and singing, as well as those who would like to learn.

A new Sunday School Singers group provides an opportunity for younger children to learn memorable songs with a message; they rehearse each Sunday immediately following the 10 a.m. service and will provide worship music on the 4th Sunday of each month.

Another new musical program for children in fourth grade and above, Searsport Area Youth Singers (SAYS), is open to anyone who would like to learn music that is meaningful and fun and to sing with friends. This choir will provide worship music on the second Sunday of each month. Rehearsals for Searsport Area Youth Singers will be held Thursdays from 3 to 4 p.m. at the church, beginning Thursday, Sept. 20.

Maunz is planning a concert series for the church and community, beginning with Sean Fleming and The Red Hot Peppers Band Sunday, Sept. 9, at 3 p.m. at 8 Church St., Searsport. All freewill donations received will benefit the church's expansion/elevator fund.

Anyone interested in joining the church music program is asked to contact Carolyn Maunz at, or the church office at
