No. 1, unbeaten Lions boys continue to roar, girls battle foes

The Belfast tennis squads have a handful of regular-season matches remaining, as the Lion boys look to lock up the top seed — and an unbeaten record — in Class B North, while the Lion girls are on the outside looking in on the high school playoffs.

Belfast had another opportunity to cement its status for the postseason against Edward Little of Auburn and Gardiner on Wednesday, May 15, as the girls fell to the Red Eddies 5-0, while the boys defeated the Tigers 4-1, while the girls fell 5-0.

The followings is a recap of reported results:

Boys tennis

Belfast 4, Gardiner 1

At Gardiner May 15, the Lions kept their undefeated record intact.

The individual results, with Lion players listed first, were: In singles, Josh Chun beat Dustin Allard, 6-1, 6-2; Eli Jolliffe beat Arthur Taylor, 6-1, 6-0; and Max Lewis beat Jed Malinowksi, 6-0, 6-3.

In doubles, Dyllan Clark and Vin Bonarrigo lost to Evan Wells and George Swenson, 7-5, 1-6, 4-6; and Sam Spectre and Kyle Agbuya beat Calvin Dacus and Nick Flowers, 6-2, 6-3.

In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Class B North, Belfast (9-0, 102.8333 points) is first in the 16-team region. The top 11 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Girls tennis

Edward Little 5, Belfast 0

At Belfast May 16, the Lions fell to the Red Eddies.

The individual results, with Lion players listed first, were: In singles, Clarrisse Stradtman lost to Esther Chen, 2-8; Emily Woods lost to Molly Vincent, 3-8; and Jasmine Cunningham lost to Mikaela Scott, 2-8.

In doubles, Olivia Matthews and Caitlin Maddocks lost to Janvi Patel and Caroline Tracy, 1-8; and Sadie Wheeler and Alice Andrews lost to Emma Stoner and Anyssa Logan ,1-8.

In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Class B North, Belfast (2-8, 7.9167 points) is 13th, while Erskine Academy of South China (7-1, 71.9444 points) is first in the 17-team region. The top 12 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Gardiner 5, Belfast 0

At Belfast May 15, the Tigers defeated the Lions.

The individual results, with Lion players listed first, were: In singles, Madison Farris lost to Lindsey Bell 4-8; Clarisse Stradtman lost to Kiara Goggin, 6-8; and Emily Woods lost to Hannah Foust, 3-8.

In doubles, Jasmine Cunningham and Olivia Matthews lost to Caitlin Paul and Susie Strickland, 4-8; and Sarah Woods and Sadie Wheeler lost to Haley Smith and Sarah Foust, 5-8.
