Nordic sets public info session for March 26

Mar 18, 2019

Belfast — Nordic Aquafarms Inc. will hold a public information meeting Tuesday, March 26, at 6 p.m. at the Hutchinson Center, 80 Belmont Ave.

The company said in a press release today that it will present "key information" from its Site Location of Development Act (SLODA) and Natural Resources Protection Act (NRPA) permit applications, as well as its previously submitted discharge application, and take public comment.

Nordic plans to submit the SLODA and NRPA applications to the Maine DEP in April, according to the press release. The company submitted its discharge, or MEPDES, application with the DEP last October. All of the applications will now be considered by the Maine Board of Environmental Protection in coming months.

"We look forward to sharing information with area residents and getting their feedback,” Commercial Director Marianne Naess said in the press release.

According to the press release, pursuant to DEP rules, Nordic has published formal notice of the meeting in the Bangor Daily News and notice is being sent to project abutters by certified mail.

The notice states that the purpose of the meeting is for Nordic Aquafarms to “inform the public regarding its proposed land-based aquaculture project and its anticipated environmental impacts, along with information about opportunities for public comment on the project,” the press release said.

Thank you Nordic for continuing your permitting process in Belfast amidst all the nonsense that is taking place.  Many of us do want to see the process through and are excited for you to move forward.
