Northport Golf Club stays busy with hot course play

Northport — Northport Golf Club continues to be busy for golfers with regular weekly tournaments still going strong.

On Aug. 27 in a two-person best ball tournament, Randy Berry and Don Pendergast finished first gross 71, while Mike Knox and John McCay nabbed second gross 69. Paul Jasienowski and Mike Bahn finished first net 59, while the teams of Cliff Staples and Barry Crawford, and Mark Bradstreet and Cliff Randall, tied for second net 61.

In sweeps, Berry finished first gross 69, while Knox was second at 71; Staples, third at 78; and Paul Schelble, fourth at 81. Mike Bahn finished first net 64, while Mike Marshall, Cliff Randall and Tim Riley tied for second net 68. Pin winners were: Berry, 23-feet-4-inches on the third hole; Randall, 4-10 on the ninth; Berry, 30-2 on the 12th; and Berry, 1-10 on the 18th.

Also Aug. 27, in the scotch foursome championship, Frank Field and Jean Brown finished first gross 75; Paul Doody and Valery Doody, first net 86; Terry Whitney and Roxie Whitney, second gross 82; Jack Johnson and Mary Ann Darbelnet, third gross 84; Jeff Dutch and Elaine Bielenberg, second net 65; and Bob Barrett and Brenda Barrett, third net 68.

On Aug. 24 in a scotch foursome tournament, Terry and Roxie Whitney finished first gross 37; Frank Field and Jean Brown, second gross 38; Lee Woodward and Phyllis Gaul, first net 28; Paul Deeney and Christine Deeney, second net 30.5; Bill Pickford and Annie Pickford, third net 31.5; Moe Eastman and Vivian Fuller, fourth net 33; and Jeff Dutch and Norma Dutch, fifth net 33.5. A mystery prize was awarded to Cecil Eastman and Loretta Eastman.

On Aug. 21 in twilight league action, in Class A sweeps, Jesse Johnson finished first gross 35; Mike Knox, second gross 36; Larry Quinn and Terry Whitney, tied for third gross 39; Chris Tibbetts and Barry Porter, tied for first net 33; and Jeff Dutch and Paul Jasienowski, tied for third for third net 35.

In Class B sweeps, Bruce Spaulding finished first gross 38; Jim Kunkel and John Dimier, tied for second gross 41; Bill Farris, first net 29; Jerry Savitz and Barry Crawford, tied for second net 33. Class A pin winners were: Terry Whitney, 8-10 on the third; and Jesse Johnson, 4-4 on the ninth. Class B pin winners were: Brian Beaulieu, 35-9 on the third; and Alden Overlock, 4-4 on the ninth.
