November historic photo

Nov 26, 2017

The Carle and Jones stores on upper Main Street sold everything from souvenir china and postcards to cleaning supplies, cloaks and suits, household crockery and china. The Jones store specialized in the sale of Edison phonographs and records. The stores began selling their wares in 1892 and remained a partnership until 1917, when Mr. Jones bought out Mrs. Carle and the business became known as Fred D. Jones and Sons. This photograph, taken in their early years, advertises the last day of a 9-cent sale. The stores are now Man on Main and Lotic Inc.
