Apr 10, 2019

Belfast — Mark your calendar for Belfast’s inaugural Downtown Restaurant Week, April 22-27. This week-long event will feature special menus, drinks and events at several downtown Belfast restaurants and bars.

Restaurant Week will kick off Monday, April 22, with a Taste of Belfast, hosted at the United Farmers Market, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Attendees will sample dishes from downtown restaurants and learn about specials and events happening over the course of Restaurant Week.

Admission to the event is $5, with proceeds benefiting Our Town Belfast. The event also features a cash bar and live music. Tickets can be purchased at https://tasteofbelfast2019.bpt.me or in person at KatWalk, 104 Main St., or Key Bank, 111 Main St.

The evening will also include Our Town Belfast’s annual meeting. The annual meeting starts at 6 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The meeting will feature remarks from City Manager Joe Slocum, a presentation of Our Town Belfast’s Volunteer of the Year award, and an overview of the work the organization is undertaking this year.

A raffle for over $350 worth of gift cards to local restaurants will also be drawn during the event. Raffle tickets can be purchased at https://belfastrestaurantgiftcertificate.bpt.me for $10 each.

“Belfast has such a well-rounded restaurant scene,” said Tina DelSanto, one of the Restaurant Week idea originators. “Some of us got together and had this idea to showcase the restaurants we have here in Belfast.” DelSanto co-owns Delvino’s Grill & Pasta House, Front Street Pub and Harborwalk Restaurant.

Restaurant weeks have become popular ways to support and promote local restaurant scenes, especially during slower shoulder seasons. Our Town Belfast, a Main Street America-accredited nonprofit, is collaborating with downtown Belfast restaurants to make Restaurant Week a reality.

Zach Schmesser, Our Town Belfast executive director, said, “We’re always looking for ways to encourage collaboration in our downtown; here it happens to be with our restaurants. (The idea for) Restaurant Week came up during a meeting with a group of restaurant owners. The event is in perfect alignment with our mission to promote our vibrant downtown.”

Belfast’s first Restaurant Week will allow restaurants to design their own events and specials. Friday evening will feature drink specials at a number of establishments. Some restaurants will offer prix fixe menus. More restaurants and specials are being added daily, so check the Our Town Belfast website at ourtownbelfast.org for updates.
