P.A.W.S. Board of Trustees seeks passionate animal lovers to help shape the future!

CAMDEN, MAINE – The P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center Board of Trustees is actively looking for passionate, inspired and creative community members interested in helping shape the future of P.A.W.S.

P.A.W.S. is a nonprofit no-kill animal shelter dedicated to providing care for homeless dogs and cats until they can be placed in permanent, responsible homes while promoting humane values in our community through outreach and educational programs.

The P.A.W.S. Board of Trustees is a voluntary working board of local leaders dedicated to providing direction and guidance to the nonprofit organization. Board members are elected annually and serve a three year term. While board applications are welcomed year-round, new board members will be elected at the January 2019 meeting. Prospective board members are encouraged to shadow current members prior to their election as a way to familiarize themselves with the kinds of work they would be expected to perform once elected.

The Board of Trustees has five primary responsibilities. The Board sets the overall policies and goals for the organization and ensures that established policies are followed by all P.A.W.S. volunteers and staff. The Board also secures and monitors financial resources and funding, establishes accountability for its volunteers and staff, participates in organizational events, and provides for regular communication with the P.A.W.S. Executive Director and the community.

The P.A.W.S. Board of Trustees meets once monthly. Individual board members are expected to attend all monthly meetings. All board members are expected to serve on one of three permanent committees that include meetings quarterly. Each member is expected to play a lead role in the annual Auction for the Animals event.

While, board members typically devote between 4 and 8 hours a month to board-related activities, time commitments vary depending on the time of year, the specific committees in which a board member is involved, and the make-up of the board at any given time.

The P.A.W.S. Board of Trustees is seeking passionate community members of all backgrounds and experience levels. The Board is looking for those with expertise in governance, human relations, information technology, financial, estate planning, legal, and fundraising/event planning. Individuals must be team players, with a commitment to helping homeless animals.

Those interested in applying to become a member of the P.A.W.S. Board of Trustees should contact the nomination committee by emailing board@pawsadoption.org for more information and an application. For more information about P.A.W.S., please visit our website at www.PAWSadoption.org
