Hello, Palermo Community!

Our newest business, The Maine Variety, opened July 4 and has recently expanded hours to Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. They have a great variety of Maine-made products, and it’s definitely worth a visit!

The store is located at 2648 Route 3 (just west of the library on the opposite side of the road). Proprietors Don Barrett and Pam Page own Pagett Farm, also in Palermo. The store's mission is to support Maine producers and companies, many of which have been especially hard-hit during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The store carries products from 45 Maine vendors thus far and is adding more every week. Pagett Farm's organically raised (non-certified) chicken, pork, beef, turkey, eggs and maple syrup are for sale in the store, along with a variety of items from other Maine farms, artisans and companies. Products range from homemade soaps, knives, quilts, baskets and jewelry to flours, baking mixes, condiments and snacks, plus the farmer's market section which offers fresh, local seasonal produce.

“Every time you shop at The Maine Variety you are supporting fellow Mainers,” Page says. Page is a veterinarian who no longer practices because of injuries she sustained in a car accident in 2017. Because of her limitations, the store is currently open only on Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Barrett and Page hope that business will eventually grow to allow them to hire local workers and expand the store's hours. Right now it is a family affair, with their minor children often pitching in to help run operations.

Come check out the only storefront currently in Palermo! For more information you can visit The Maine Variety's Facebook Page.
