Pendleton Fund hits $75k goal

Jul 08, 2019

Belfast — Launched early in 2018 with an ambitious goal, the Pendleton Stewardship Fund met its goal of $75,000 in June, Coastal Mountains Land Trust announced July 8.

Honoring the late Skip and Jo Pendleton, the fund supports a seasonal trails stewardship internship in Waldo County. The Pendletons were longtime community volunteers dedicated to supporting trails and opportunities for people to enjoy nature. Skip Pendleton served on the land trust's board of directors and was a regular on the weekly work crew for nearly 20 years.

Annually, Pendleton Interns will help build and maintain trails throughout the county. This summer, Olivia Laroche of Searsmont is serving as the first Pendleton Intern. She will be attending Wellesley College as a sophomore in the fall.

Funds were raised through private donations, two movie nights at the Colonial Theatre, a coin trail at Capt. Albert Stevens Elementary School, a successful Community Cents at the Belfast Co-op, the Pendleton 5k+5mile on National Trails Day as part of RunBelfast, and generous grant funding. CASS students raised $552 with a personally constructed coin trail in their gymnasium.
