Searsport — On Friday, Dec. 6, Penobscot Marine Museum celebrates the holidays with a Seacoast Village Christmas. The celebration will be complete with Community Wreaths, a Gingerbread Lighthouse Competition, a visit from Santa, an ornament making activity, and a 25 percent discount in the museum’s mobile gift shop. The event is held in conjunction with the town of Searsport’s annual tree lighting and Downtown Searsport’s Holiday Open House. A Seacoast Village Christmas will be held in the museum’s Old Vestry building, located at 2 Church St. There is no cost for this event.

Community Wreaths allows community members, businesses and organizations to help decorate the museum for the holidays. Doorways throughout their campus will be decorated and illumined for the weekend of Dec. 6 through 8. Visitors are encouraged to walk or drive around the Penobscot Marine Museum campus to see the doorways adorned with wreaths.

Participants in the Gingerbread Lighthouse Competition can enter a real or imagined lighthouse made of gingerbread. If the lighthouse is real, and the museum has an image of it in their photo archives, the participant will receive a free 5x7 print of the lighthouse. There is a $5 entry fee for adults, and children can participate for free. The winner of the adult competition will receive 50 percent of the registration fees collected. The winner of the child competition will receive a large stuffed animal. Public voting will be held between 3:30 and 6 p.m. on Dec. 6.

As part of Downtown Searsport’s Holiday Open House, the museum’s mobile gift shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and will be offering a 25 percent discount. Other businesses participating in the open house are The Grasshopper Shop with a 25 percent discount; Splendiferous Sweet Shoppe with buy three get the fourth free on bonbons and Christmas lollipops, plus 10 percent off gift certificates; Coastal Cafe and Bakery with 10 percent off with a receipt from one of the participating businesses dated that day. All offers are valid only on Friday, Dec. 6, 2019. Hours of operation and more information can be obtained from the individual businesses.
