Phoenix rise, blank Mustangs in opening gridiron showdown

Mount View enjoys plenty of solid individual efforts despite loss

Jay — Mount View coach Rick Leary said leading up to his team’s opener against Spruce Mountain of Jay, his squad would have to rise to the occasion to compete with the Phoenix.

That fact was reaffirmed on Friday night, Sept. 1 as the Mustangs could not muster a point against the mighty Phoenix and, ultimately, were dealt a 44-0 loss.

Spruce Mountain logged six touchdowns, four of which were scored by Brett Frey, Logan Smith, Tate Walton and Brett Hunt.

Leading Mount View's offense were Rayno Boivin (5 passing yards), Jordan Brown (5 rushing yards, 156 punt return yards), Adrien Sholes (7 rushing yards), Garrett Smith (10 rushing yards), Jack Valleau (16 rushing yards), Theo Dodge (65 punt return yards), Kyle Noble (21 rushing yards), Brady Moulton (3 rushing yards) and Colby Ingraham (71 kick return yards).

On defense, Rayno Boivin (2 solo tackles, assisted tackle), Jordan Brown (2 assists), Adrien Sholes (solo, 4 assists), Garrett Smith (solo, interception), Jack Valleau (3 solos, 3 assists), Theo Dodge (3 tackles, assist), Kyle Noble (2 solos, 5 assists), Chris Dodge (4 solos, 3 assists, quarterback sack), Brady Moulton (solo, assist), Justin Landers (solo), Jason Wood (solo, 3 assists), Gabriel Gagnon (2 assists), Mark Ward (2 assists), Matthew Keating (2 solos, assist), Allen Gagnon (8 solos, 5 assists), Colby Ingraham (2 assists) and Kyle Ingraham (assist) paced the Mustangs.
