Hundreds turned out at Fort Knox Saturday, July 21, for a taste of a pirate's life, experiencing everything from sword fighting techniques and cannon lessons to walking the plank and a treasure hunt.

The Pirates of the Dark Rose, complete with their ship, Must Roos, brought authenticity to the daylong event, leading the crowd in a pirate-themed parade, a talk-like-a-pirate-contest, cannon-shooting lessons and weapons demonstrations.

Event-goers were invited to walk the plank while walking the fort grounds, and later in the day, witnessed a pirate ship attack that included all the classic weapons of the outlaw trade — cannons, flintlocks and cutlasses.

Some of those who came to the event arrived in full pirate costume, with skull and crossbones, hooks-for-hands and eye patches being among the more fashionable attire for the day.
