Rockland — The Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance offers a new workshop on revising poetry with award-winning poet Colin Cheney Saturday, July 21, at Rockland Public Library, 80 Union St.

Cheney’s Re(En)Vision Strategies workshop will examine new strategies for improving the process of revising poetry, tailored to attendees’ poems and concerns. Attendees also will receive feedback on their own manuscripts, exploring possible approaches to revision at the level of language, line, stanza and feeling.

Cheney is the author of “Here Be Monsters,” a National Poetry Series selection. He has received a Pushcart Prize and a Ruth Lilly Fellowship; and his work has appeared in publications such as Poetry, The Kenyon Review and Ploughshares. He is a founding editor of Tongue: A Journal of Writing & Art; and currently is a Visiting Professor at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies at the Maine College of Art.

Later this month, MWPA will launch its first online workshop on navigating the publishing world, led by former Random House editor Celia Johnson. Johnson’s Choose-Your-Own-Adventure workshop will address next steps for writers after completing a manuscript: crafting a query letter; developing a proposal; building a platform; and contacting agents and editors. In addition to zeroing in on the best agents and editors to contact, attendees also will revise their query letters based on Johnson’s feedback.

Advance registration is required for both workshops. For more information, visit mainewriters.org.
