Winterport — State police charged a Searsport man with felony theft following an investigation into a reported burglary at a construction pit in Winterport.

The theft was reported by Clisham Construction after the company discovered about 20 steel gravel screens and a metal job box were stolen in October 2013, according to a press release from police. The screens were valued between $500 and $700 each.

Police were able to narrow their search for a suspect to Kevin Jewell, 26, of Searsport. Officers also determined the screens and the job box were taken to DM&JRecycling in Winterport.

When police interviewed Jewell, he confessed to stealing the screens. Police charged Jewell with felony theft and he is scheduled to appear in Waldo County Superior Court, though a specific date was not given.
