Belfast — A Searsport woman has been charged with five counts of theft and two counts of burglary of a motor vehicle after police confronted her in the YMCA parking lot on Lincolnville Avenue Oct. 3.

Police said Rachel-Olivia White, 24, used her YMCA membership to enter the facility and then got into the women’s locker room Oct. 2 and 3. There she allegedly went through lockers and removed car keys. According to police, she then used the stolen keys to enter locked vehicles parked outside — one vehicle each day.

White is charged with five counts of theft because in one car she allegedly took money from two purses, Belfast Police Chief Michael McFadden said Oct. 6. When McFadden and Officer Michael Boucher stopped her Oct. 3, they recovered all of the money and returned it to the victims, McFadden said.

“We felt fortunate to get the money back for the people,” he said.
