Waldo County Sheriff's deputies are looking for a dark blue Honda Civic suspected of striking a woman in Winterport.

Around 7:15 p.m. this evening, emergency personnel were alerted to the accident involving 56-year-old Georgina Wells on North Main Street. Her husband said Wells had gone to check the mail when he heard a disturbance. When he went outside, he told police he discovered his wife had been struck by a car, which fled the scene. Police said the vehicle was probably traveling south on Route 1A at the time. Wells sustained serious injuries, including broken bones, according to police.

The passenger side mirror broke off the vehicle and has been tentatively identified as a Honda Civic manufactured between 2009 and 2011. No additional information is available about the vehicle.

Anyone with information about the suspect vehicle is encouraged to contact the Sheriff's Office by calling 338-2040.
