Poll: How will Boston Red Sox perform this season?

Previous poll shows voters 'very excited' about 'normal' high school spring sports season
By Staff | Apr 02, 2021

The wait is over for Major League Baseball fans, as opening day of the 2021 regular season fell on Thursday, April 1, and it was no joke.

Boston Red Sox fans had to wait an additional day because of Mother Nature's rain — or forecast of rain — which postponed Boston's opening day to Friday, April 2 at 2 p.m.

With the start of the Red Sox regular season slate of ballgames, the new Courier Publications/VillageSoup sports poll focuses its sights on the team and its outlook, as it asks: How do you believe the Red Sox season will end this year?

Boston had a less-than-stellar 2020 season during the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw the MLB schedule significantly reduced from its 162-game normal routine.

Boston finished 24-36 overall, and last in the American League East. However, 2021 is a new season, and sees former manager Alex Cora return to the dugout again, while some familiar faces return, and others have been traded, or moved to different teams.

The most recent sports poll focused on the 2021 high school spring sports season, and asked voters how excited they were that student-athletes around Maine were to receive a "normal" season, complete with playoffs and state championship contests.

More than 70 percent were "very excited" by this new scenario.

Masks and social distancing will be enforced, along with umpires positioned behind pitchers, when normally they are behind home plate, for baseball and softball as the notable differences this year.
