Poll: Majority believe Bruins will win Stanley Cup

By Staff | Jun 03, 2019

The results are in for the latest Courier Publications/VillageSoup sports poll, and, not surprisingly, the majority of voters believe the Boston Bruins will win the Stanley Cup.

Eighty-two-point-four percent of voters chose the Bruins, while the St. Louis Blues garnered 11.8 percent of the vote. Five-point-eight percent of people believed the Carolina Hurricanes would win the championship, but the Bruins swept the Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Finals. The San Jose Sharks did not receive a vote, and were eliminated in the Western Conference Finals.

The Bruins and Blues are the only two National Hockey League teams left standing, as Boston holds a two-games-to-one lead in the best-of-7 series, as Boston won game one of the Stanley Cup finals 4-2, but fell in game two 3-2 in overtime. The Bruins also won game three 7-2.

Game four will be played Monday, June 3 in St. Louis, while game five will be played on Thursday, June 6  in Boston. Games six and seven have not been scheduled, and will be played on an as-needed basis.

This week, for the first time, the sports staff unveils a new poll with two questions: Do you believe the Boston Celtics should resign Kyrie Irving? And, do you want the Boston Celtics to trade a handful of young players and draft picks to the New Orleans Pelicans for Anthony Davis?

Boston lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in the semifinals of the Eastern Conference playoffs four-games-to-one.
