Poll: Majority believe Patriots will win Super Bowl

Poll's focus shifts to wide receiver Antonio Brown
By Staff | Oct 03, 2019

The results are in for the latest Courier Publications/VillageSoup sports poll, and, "shockingly," with tongue securely in cheek, the majority of voters believe the New England Patriots will bring another Super Bowl title back to Foxborough.

Sixty-six-point-six percent of voters chose the Patriots, while 18.5 percent picked the Kansas City Chiefs to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. "The field" — which encompassed the other NFL teams — had the third highest percentage with 11.1, while the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams garnered 1.9 percent.

The new poll's subject will stay in the National Football League, with a much narrower focus on former Patriots' wide receiver Antonio Brown, and ask: Do you believe Antonio Brown will play in the NFL again?

Brown was traded from the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Oakland Raiders on March 10, and did not make it to the start of the regular season with Oakland before he was released by the team on Sept. 7, and, ultimately, signed with New England on Sept. 9.

From there, according to Sports Illustrated, Brown was accused of sexual assault and rape in a civil lawsuit by Britney Taylor, Brown's former trainer, on Sept. 10.

New England released Brown on Sept 20, after Sports Illustrated published a follow-up story which revealed Brown had "sent threatening and intimidating text messages to his second accuser after her story was made public."

As of Oct. 2, Brown had not signed with a new NFL team.
