Poll: Majority want Cam Newton to start at quarterback for Patriots

Poll turns to Boston Red Sox baseball season win total
By Staff | Jul 22, 2020

The results are in and the majority favor the new guy on the block, as 54.2 percent of voters believe the New England Patriots should start Cam Newton at quarterback to begin the 2020-2021 season.

A tie for second ensued when 20.8 percent of voters chose Jarrett Stidham and "sign a new quarterback," while 4.2 percent believe Brian Hoyer should quarterback the team.

The Patriots signed the 31-year-old Newton on June 28 to a one-year deal, which, according to nfl.com, is worth up to $7.5 million dollars, with incentives.

Newton was the franchise quarterback for the Carolina Panthers for nine years, before the team released the former No. 1 pick out of Auburn on March 24.

The former Panthers' signal-caller was the 2015 National Football League most valuable player, when he accounted for 45 touchdowns and led the Panthers to Super Bowl L (50) — a 24-10 loss to the Denver Broncos.

Newton missed 14 games last season and the final two contests of 2018 due to injury.

Now, the sports staff turns its attention to the 60-game Major League Baseball regular season, which starts on Thursday, July 23, as the staff asks: How many wins will the Boston Red Sox amass during the 60-game regular season, with solid projections in hitting, run production and bullpen, despite significant question marks with the starting pitching?

The Red Sox begin the regular season on Friday night, July 24, when the club opens up play against the Baltimore Orioles inside Fenway Park, a contest which will be held in front of no fans.

The 2020 MLB season has been cut short because of the C0VID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, as well as negotiations between the league and players' union.
