Pope Memorial Humane Society Discounts Adoptions Fees to Clear the Shelters on August 18th.

Pope Memorial Humane Society will join shelters from across the nation and the state of Maine as part of a one-day nationwide pet adoption drive. On Clear the Shelters Day, adoption fees will be reduced on all animals in hopes that every animal will find a kind and caring, forever home.

“Over 1,100 animals come through our shelter every year. We see and adopt out cats, dogs, rabbits, birds, guinea pigs, reptiles and even farm animals. Our list of current residents changes daily and we always recommend coming by the shelter to see who is available. We are looking forward to joining shelters across the country in the one-day adoption extravaganza.” Said Theresa Gargan, Shelter Manager.

Pope Memorial Humane Society will be open from 11 am until 5 pm on Saturday, August 18th. Cats over one-year-old will be $25 each, dogs over one-year-old will be $50 off their normal posted adoption fee. Further specials will be announced as we get closer to Clear the Shelters Day. We strongly recommend people interested in adopting an animal fill out an application and get preapproved prior to the 18th. Standard adoptions procedures will apply and animals will not be put on hold for adoption at a later date. The adoption application can be found on our website at www.hskcme.org and emailed to applications@hskcme.org or you may stop in to the shelter and pick one up.

All animals adopted from PMHS include a distemper vaccination (DHPPL for dogs & FVRCP for cats), a rabies vaccination (if the animal is at least 3 months old), canine kennel cough vaccination, FeLV (feline leukemia) & FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus) testing, canine 4DX heartworm/lyme/anaplasmosis/erlichia test, de-wormer, flea & tick preventative, spay/neuter at appropriate age, microchip and free vet visit within the first 10 days of adoption. Additionally, all animals adopted during Clear the Shelters will go home with a goodie bag courtesy of Hill’s Science Diet Food.

Clear the Shelters will be a family friendly event for our community. To celebrate so many animals finding their forever homes we will have popcorn, beverages, photo ops, and more. August 18th will truly be a great day to adopt a new pet into your home and be part of a nationwide movement to Clear the Shelters.
