POSTPONED: UU church to ordain Lane Fisher March 29

Mar 13, 2020

Belfast — The Unitarian Universalist Church of Belfast will affirm the professional ministry of Lane Fisher with her ordination Sunday, March 29, at 4 p.m. All are welcome to attend the ceremony at the church, 37 Miller St., and the reception that follows.

A press release from the church explains the meaning of the ordination: "This event is more than a celebration. It is more than a rubber stamp event. It is a special and significant event, not only for the ordinand but for the whole church.

"We are the only ones in a position to bestow the title of Reverend. When we do that we are saying that we see and trust Lane as a minister who will live into her call in ways that are moral, ethical and authentic. We are saying that we believe in her prophetic voice, her pastoral presence and her professional power. We claim her for Unitarian Universalist ministry and lift her into the ranks of all those Reverends who have come before.

"This ordination is a statement about who we are and what we believe in. It is a sacred practice of our faith. It is joyous and weighty. It is a gift and an honor."

Ministerial colleagues and seminarians are invited to robe at 3:30 p.m. and process. Home hospitality is available to out-of-town guests. Contact the Rev. Amy Fiorilli at amyfiorilli@gmail.com or 930-0007 for more information.
