Public hearing to solicit comments on ferry service tolls

Nov 07, 2018

Augusta — The Maine Department of Transportation will conduct a public hearing Nov. 28 at noon at the University of Maine's Hutchinson Center, 80 Belmont Ave., Belfast, to receive comments about a proposed new rule relating to establishment of tolls for all routes served by the Maine State Ferry Service.

The public is invited to attend this hearing to present data, views, arguments and comments.

The proposed rule would establish tolls that are consistent with the tolls as they are currently set out in state statute. This rule would also allow for surcharges on the tolls if the costs of the ferry service increase or ridership decreases, causing a shortfall in operating funds.

For additional information, for a printed version of the proposed rule, for a copy of the statement of impact on small business pursuant to state law, or to submit written data, views, argument, and comments, contact James Billings, Legal Division, Maine Department of Transportation, 16 State House Station, Augusta, ME 04333-0016, call 624-3020 or email

Written submissions must be received by Dec. 12.
