Public invited to Maine Ocean School open house Nov. 3

Oct 29, 2018

Searsport — Maine Ocean School, Maine’s new marine-oriented public magnet high school, invites the public to join in celebrating the school's opening. The “Maine Ocean School, Underway!” open house will take place Saturday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Searsport District Middle/High School Cafetorium.

Maine Ocean School welcomed its first class of 12 Maine students, grades nine through 11, on Sept. 4. The program, the first of its kind in Maine, offers specialized tracks in marine science, transportation, engineering, and management.

At the open house, Maine Ocean School trustees, teachers, students and volunteers will discuss their experiences in the first few months of the school’s opening. There will be information for prospective students and their families, and those who are interested in volunteering for Maine Ocean School.

There will be a trustee presentation at 11 a.m. and a student presentation at 11:15 a.m.

The mission of Maine Ocean School is to provide a theme-based high school education focused on Maine’s maritime connection, with an emphasis on leadership, work ethic, and the transferable skills associated with careers involving the ocean.

Students interested in pursuing a marine-based career after high school are encouraged to apply for admission online at maineoceanschool.org/apply.
