Belfast — In a brief ceremony July 2, Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition dedicated a Belfast Rail Trail display honoring the late Skip and Jo Pendleton.

The small gathering included the Pendleton family, BBWC board members and city of Belfast officials.

The display company, Penniar, suggested that the display contain 80 to 100 words so people would take the time to read it. According to a news release, after three attempts to reach that number, BBWC settled on 114 words, conceding it was "impossible to capture the many contributions Skip and Jo had made to the city of Belfast and surrounding area."

BBWC dedicated the display to Belfast and its citizens. The display is situated at the beginning of the Rail Trail from the town entrance, providing good visibility for local citizens and visitors.

"A trail in the woods is where Skip and Jo would feel most comfortable," the press release said. "It is BBWC’s hope that when the public reads the display, they will be inspired to do what Skip and Jo did: become active in the community and live life with enthusiasm. The spirit of Skip and Jo remains — in the woods as we hike, in town as we shop at the Co-op, and at local theater productions and community events."
