Ready for action: District 2 Little League baseball tourney schedule changes

Baseball 11-12 tourney pushed ahead one week, play begins July 5

Rockland — While one of the District 2 Little League all-star tournaments has finished — 11- and 12-year-old softball — the other divisions are set to start their official tournaments.

Following the July Fourth holiday, games have been scheduled for the 9-10, 10-11 and 11-12 baseball divisions at E. Allen Gordon Field in Rockland and Thomaston Little League Field.

A schedule of upcoming games includes:

Wednesday, July 5 — Lincoln County versus Oceanside 11-12s, 5:30 p.m., Rockland. (official start of double-elimination tourney)

Saturday, July 8 — Medomak Valley versus Waldo County 11-12s, 7 p.m., Thomaston.

Sunday, July 9 — Lincoln County versus Oceanside 9-10s, 11:30 a.m., Rockland. (official start of double-elimination tourney); Five Town versus Lincoln County-Oceanside 11-12s winner, 2 p.m., Rockland; and Lincoln County-Oceanside loser versus Medomak Valley-Waldo County 11-12s loser, 4:30 p.m., Rockland.

Monday, July 10 — Five Town versus Oceanside 10-11s, 5:30 p.m., Rockland. (official start of best-of-three tourney)

The state 11-12 softball is expected to start on Friday, July 7 at the Marge Jones Recreation Facility, Route 90, Rockport, while the 9-10 softball will begin on Saturday, July 15 in Scarborough.

The District 2 11-12 softball champion is Five Town and the 9-10 softball champion Medomak Valley.

And thanks to the Umpire, seems they never get any credit for umping. They do get a pittance for their time but they really like helping out the kids!
