Register on race day for 5K Bug Run

Aug 13, 2019

Belfast — A Belfast Harbor Fest tradition, the 5K Bug Run is so-named because Mainers refer to lobsters — the prizes — as "bugs." The run/walk takes place Saturday, Aug. 17, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the parking lot at Union and Miller streets.

Registration and packet pickup are from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. on race day. Entry fees are $25 ($20 for active duty military); registration includes a blueberry pancake breakfast, compliments of  Belfast Harbor Fest. Performance T-shirts will be available while supplies last.

The race is run over a scenic, fairly flat course that includes a few gentle hills, shaded neighborhoods, a stretch along the waterfront, and the Armistice Footbridge across the Passagassawakeag River, with one water stop.

Top female and male runners receive 20 lbs. of live lobsters (“bugs”).

This event, sponsored by Belfast Rotary, is fourth of six events in the RunBelfast 2019 race series (visit runbelfast.org).

Still to come are the YMCA Pancake Triple Stack 1-Mile Kids' Run, 5K and 10K Sept. 15, and the Rollie’s Run for Kids 5K Oct. 5.
