Republican challenger in House District 98

By Jessica Connor | Jan 18, 2020
Republican Jessica Connor plans to challenge incumbent Democrat Scott Cuddy for the House District 98 seat.

My name is Jessica Connor and I am a Republican running for House District 98 serving Winterport, Searsport, Frankfort and Swanville. I am running for state representative because many state legislators have lost our trust. We need our leaders to focus on rebuilding rapport and respect between state legislators and the people they serve.

Many of our Democrat leaders have given the green light to laws that are devastating to the well-being of our friends and neighbors. They are attempting to strip us of many of our constitutional rights and personal freedoms while taxing us to death. They are ignoring our calls and emails and acting in opposition to their constituents. Let’s get our state legislators working for us so we can start making improvements to the issues affecting Mainers. Let’s give our friends, neighbors and children something they can bank on.

I am a fiscally responsible, conservative Republican who supports 2nd Amendment rights. I believe in solution-based politics that work for the people. Maine needs a stronger economy, lower taxes, and better-paying jobs. We need our state representatives to hear us and voice our concerns at the State House. Our loved ones are struggling to make ends meet. Let’s focus on lifting people out of poverty and building strong families and communities. These goals can only be accomplished when we cut through the rhetoric, question defective policies and approach unconventional solutions with an open mind.

Since my youth, I have demonstrated the audacity to stand up against injustice and earn my independence. I have had the courage to break generational patterns to forge a completely different path for my own family, and I am proud to have helped many others in our community do the same.

As a small business owner, I have proven that it is possible to grow a business and flourish in a small community, with no debt in a saturated industry. As a community leader, I have helped dozens of families through hard times by raising money to help them pay for medical expenses through the popular "March Madness Benefit" events.

As a parent of three children in the Searsport school district, I am concerned about education. I spearheaded the effort to pull our communities together to revision our local school in a series of events called "Focus on the Future" when the former Regional School Unit 20 threatened to close Searsport District Middle and High Schools. The three comprehensive "Focus on the Future" events eventually led to the inspiration for the concept of the Maine Ocean School.

I am known for my fierce advocacy skills for students at Searsport Schools. I frequently effect positive change by sharing my concerns and innovative ideas with school, community and state leaders. With this kind of leadership, experience, and tenacity, I have proven that I am not afraid to challenge broken systems, stand up for what is right or think outside of the box.

I will serve the people of the Maine House of Representatives District 98 with the same enthusiasm and determination at the State House, and make meaningful changes for the people who live here not just for our generation, but for generations to come.

I would like to extend an invitation to anyone residing in Frankfort, Searsport, Swanville or Winterport to join me on Friday, Jan. 31, at 6:30 p.m. at Union Hall in Searsport for a campaign kickoff event. There will be a meet and greet, robust conversation, music and refreshments. All are welcome to attend.
