River Arts calls for abstract, holiday works

Oct 09, 2018

Damariscotta — River Arts on Route 1 invites artists throughout Maine to submit artwork for the “Abstraction” show and Holiday Shop.

Artists can submit up to three works for the “Abstraction” exhibition in any medium including sculpture, photography, collage, painting, ceramics, fiber and fine craft. Work can be delivered anytime during gallery hours until the deadline, which is Saturday, Oct. 20, at 4 p.m.

Juror for the exhibition is Leonard Meiselman of Wiscasset. Born and raised in New York City, Meiselman received his art education at the Cooper Union, the Skowhegan School of Art in Maine and the Cranbrook Academy in Michigan. He has had one-person exhibitions at the Camden Arts Center in London, the Yeshiva University Museum in New York, the Holocaust Center in Manhasset and elsewhere.

An opening reception for “Abstraction” will be held Friday, Oct. 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. For more information about this call and entry form, visit riverartsme.org.

River Arts also invites artists to submit works for its Holiday Shop, a festive showroom featuring original artwork of all types for holiday sales. There is no entry fee for inclusion in this show. Works can be fine art, as well as decorative or functional fine crafts.  River Arts will be accepting original works including painting in all media, photography, prints, sculpture, fabric, weaving, glass, pottery, jewelry, wood or stone carving, ornaments, cards, mixed media and others upon approval. It also will accept books by Maine writers.

The Holiday Shop will be open from Nov. 15 until the end of the year. Artists may submit artwork beginning Nov. 1. In general, small works, up to six entries per artist, are recommended. Pieces must be priced at $100 (or lower), and River Arts will retain 35 percent commission on all sales.
